How did the Mughals Control India?

With Babur's invasion through the Khyber Pass in the early 16th century, the Mughal Empire was born, but how did they properly consolidate power in a subcontinent that was totally alien to them? Armchair Historian's Video:

Although, they never conquered all of India, a few regions like Assam and Kerala where my ancestors came from was never apart of the Mughal Empire.

They could control India because Indians were disunited along lines of caste, language, region, different religions or different religious sects etc. Due to these divisions Indians had a tendency to stab each other in the back whereby many of them would ally with outsiders to defeat other Indians or help the outsiders to rule Indians. Also Indians were not as well organised militarily as the invaders.
