Who looks more alike: White Americans and Uruguayans or Black Americans and Dominicans?

Imo, both pairings are roughly on par. For White Americans and Uruguayans, although on an individual basis there is a lot of crossover, as groups they are fairly easy to tell apart because of their generally different ethnic/national origins and the fact that many Uruguayans still have albeit small amounts of Amerindian admixture. Similarly, although Black Americans and Dominicans can often overlap on an individual basis, as a whole Black Americans tend to be noticeably darker-skinned than the more heavily Euro-admixed (and to an extent Amerindian-admixed) Dominicans. So, what do others here think?

White Americans and Uruguayans look more similar. Both white Americans and Uruguayans look white/European, whereas Dominicans look much more mixed and few pass as full African. You can find plenty of Aframs who pass as full African, on the other hand.

Dominicans not only are less African on average, but their African component differs. Dominicans have a lot more Senegambian ancestry and much less Central African (Angolan/Congolese) than African Americans do.

When I visited New York, I was surprised by how easily I could tell apart most of the time the Dominicans (and Puerto Ricans) from African-Americans.

But in Miami, I wonder how easy would it be to tell apart the Uruguayans, Argentinians and White Cubans from Anglos?

When I visited New York, I was surprised by how easily I could tell apart most of the time the Dominicans (and Puerto Ricans) from African-Americans.

I think Dominicans and Cape Verdeans look similar.

I think that if we're talking about your average NW European descent White American, and your average Spanish/Italian descent Uruguayan, then we can easily tell them apart. Just as in the same manner you can 7 out of 10 times tell apart a Brit or a German from a southern European. However, the difference gets blurry or even non-existent if you put Italian-Americans and Uruguayans in the same room. That's one important aspect of the whole equation to take into account.

Most Dominicans and Puerto Ricans could only pass as light-skinned African Americans, so as a rule of thumb you can easily tell them apart. (although in the former group there are quite a few who are dark enough to pass for your run of the mill Afram.)
