    Poland doesn't change names like that, it is Lithuania's language preservation policy. But you can of course Polonize your surname if you want. Many people for example Anglicize their surnames after migrating to the USA.

    Either Szmyt / Szmit, or Kowal / Kowalski.

    Depends if you want a phonetically Polonized version or a native version that means the same thing.
