They're not exactly selling their history. A lot of pan European traditions were originally derived from Iranian traditions. Easter, Christmas and even aspects of Halloween are all rooted in ancient Iranian holidays, long before Christianity and 99% of European civilization. The notion of Christianity itself is based on ancient Iranian ideology.

What Christians and Europeans celebrate all year long, is celebrated within a week of the Persian new year. The Persians directly and indirectly influenced so many different cultures. All Iranians are proud of this and don't sell out their history to anyone.
