The closest genetically (outside of Italy) are Aegean islands like Crete and the Dodecanese which is well known but also Jews, Cypriots, and far southern Peloponnese so I think this is consistent with your statement. Then you have the West Asians and whatnot.

Rest of Italy but some individuals leaning to Levant region rather europe.Some of them also giving a balkan vibe witch makes them also fit in Serbia,Bulgaria,Romania etc.But as a whole i think they look Italians.

Genetically, it makes sense given that they have similar genetic affinities.
