It sounds like a Venetian surname : Dapiràn -> Da Piràn -> From Pirano (a town of Istria, former Venetian territory).

Very true actually. There are more similarities than differences and most could pass in each other’s countries. The main difference I think is that some of the Italians are more Central European shifted than the Spaniards, who have more pure Mediterranoid types.
