Chinese cultural superiority over Japanese

Maybe so but Japanese culture doesn't seem very Chinese influenced until the Kofun period. They also got additional Korean influence then too.

China absolutely influenced Japanese culture. That being said, the Chinese are too dishonest and lack empathy for strangers which is why I, as much as I admire certain aspects of their culture and history, I do not consider them the superior Asian culture.

China as of today is superior to Japan in all but soft power. Maybe cutting corners here, but especially militarily and economically, it's not anymore even a competition.

Well soft power is indeed important in the perception of culture. It can sway the votes against facts and pure numbers. Image is everything.
