You have the right to don't agree, I loved my trip in Greece, it's a beautiful country with nice food & nice people but sorry, Athens is dangerous and left me a very very bad memory! I would not recommand it to anyone. I believe I am not the only one who had the same experience! Maybe it was bad luck but we were a group and I remember as a woman we had to change our clothes to avoid harrassment and even like that, it changed nothing, the same night, a woman in my group has been assaulted!

There was no metro in Syria when I visited them as a child but both Damascus and Aleppo were clean and orderly, at least the parts I visited. They were also adequately policed.

We were approached by child beggars once we got out of old town Damascus though.

Trust me, the Bucharest metro, is looking even worse than the Paris metro.
We do not have any migration,lol.
Why we have such a horrible metro?
Because it was made during Bolshevik times.
They build a new line metro and is looking superb, compared to our old metro.

Because they drew in all sorts of lawless elements, they were recently renovated and made much more transparent.

I remember taking the metro in Athens but forgot how it was, long time ago.

In Paris, it depends of the metro station or line, some are correct but I have to agree, public transports in Paris are terrible : dirty, incivility, without mentioning that there are many nut cases who use them, delays or technical problems and sometimes even assaults or robberies etc... I alway avoid the train and take my car (blablabla I am polluting I know).

To be honest, incivilities are quite frequent in most big cities but definitely Paris is worse than before in most aspects and worse than many other cities/capitals. What a pity for a beautiful city like Paris!
I recently took Istanbul & Prague metros, they are really nice.
Thankfully, I live in the suburbs. The supposed "dangerous" suburbs or "la banlieue" can be (depending of the city) better than Paris itself, if not richer with higher standards of living. The richest "départment" of France is les Hauts-de-Seine (92) and it's the Parisian surburb, the same can be said about many of its inhabitants (higher incomes in average). The most expensive city in real estate sector of France is Neuilly-sur-Seine (92) : 12k euros (by square meter)

Edit : I forgot about Athens's metro but Athens is x1000 more dangerous than Paris though. I was scared when hanging around in the city and some of my friends have been assaulted there. You were seeing people selling drugs (hard drugs) in the middle of the street without even trying to hide, I've never seen something like that of my life. I've never been also more harrassed in the streets than in Athens

Ufff... If that's true.that makes Athens just another shithole, were those guys locals or migrants ? Or perhaps you just got into bad areas, plenty of those in Paris.

I hate to be in overcrowded metro regardless of its looks or technical improvements. That's why generally I avoid metro but recently I had to be in Moscow Metro and it was torturously overcrowded. I skipped several trains before I dared to enter the subway car.

Maybe I suffer some kind of metrophobia because once in the past I was robbed in Kiev's metro, a large amount of money and all my documents were stolen from my pocket. Though I have to admit that professional thieves in Ukraine are kind of noble people, they take only money and always throw up the documents so that they can be found. I was robbed in Ukraine twice and in both cases the documents were found afterwards even including bank and credit cards. I lost only money and gold jewelry.
