It's possible to assimilate as white all the predominantly Euro hispanics in US in one or two generations.

But leaving phenotypes and races aside, those groups are culturally many times more foreign and hard to assimilate in the US or any other Western country than most Hispanics are.

I've always said, people who either refuse or who should not be able to assimilate into our culture should be made to feel unwanted and uncomfortable here, knowing it's not really their country.

Puerto Ricans are predominantly White too, I'm not refering only to White looking individuals. But if you take a Harnizo Mexican or Euro-Triracial Puerto Rican and mix him with a WASP person the offspring certainly will look White.

Even White Americans of Italian, Greek or Jewish heritage are a lot of the time still easily distinguishable and separated from WASPs, so what makes you think that Hispanics (however white or not they may be) will be so easy to 'disappear' as a distinctive ethnic group?

There was a policy of forced assimilation to Italians, Jews and Greeks? I don't think so.

Anyway most people of Italian descent in US now are mixed with other ethnicities, especially with Northern Europeans and Jews.

No. There are too many of them. If they were fewer, then it would work but the fact that there are so many and that there is no end to them, is why this strategy won't work. That's why Cubans didn't assimilate that well, btw. It's not because of the race and whatnot, because many of us did assimilate quite well. It was because there was a never-ending stream of them coming from Cuba and strong ties to the mother country.

The only way to assimilate a group of people is to 1. limit their numbers 2. kick out the ones who don't do well 3. encourage assimilation through language and customs. In other words, it's oK to speak whatever language you want at home, but in commerce, one must speak the ligua franca of the country. It's ok to practice whatever traditions you want at home, but in the public sphere, one must honor and respect the traditions of the host country, etc. etc.

I can agree with your proposals regarding immigration, but your proposals regarding language would be much harder to enforce. For a start, the use of Spanish and to a lesser extent other foreign languages in business and tourism is nowadays highly essential in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and most of all Miami, the 'capital of the Americas'.

But what about the legal immigrants who look predominantly SSA or Amerindian? Where do they fit in all this?
