The United States defines itself as a nation where there are two opposing and co-existing ethnic groups which will not mix, the offspring will decide which group to join there are: white and black.
These two macro groups that find meaning in existing as opposite of one another
Whites:Educated, wealthy, dorky and conformist. Overpresented in the fields of: Education, Corporate jobs, science.
Blacks:Ignorant, poor, cool and hustlers. Represented in: Music, Sports, entertainment.
When an immigrant group comes to America, regardless of their skin color or background they either become white or they become black. Therefore, a group like East Asians, for the most part assimilate into the "white" group. You'll see its much more common to see WMAW couples in America since most of them have gone to school together. In contrast, when most latinos(I'm saying most not ALL) come to the USA they become black, despite their actual race or heritage. That is why you'll see most Hispanics saying they are, 'Brown" people. I've seen Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans who racially look "white" but adopted mannerism of the macro black group and see themselves as people of color.
The exception to this are the wealthy harnizos, castizos(which are very few) who come to America to top universities. They simply get assimilated to the white group and tend to identify with their country of origin as opposed to the 'hispanic' group.
