It's very very possible and not just from Poland but from Bohemia, Moravia too. Genetically the slovak, hungarian and czech are same population.

I'm sure an actual Slovak wouldn't appreciate you calling their ethnic identity illegitimate. It brings to mind the reasoning behind forced Magyarization attempts.

West Slovaks similar genetic as Czechs, Hungarians, Austrians, Slovenes, North Croats

East Slovaks different, they are Rusyns. Most similar with other Rusyns, West Ukrainians

Hungarians are not slovak haters on average, but of course there is a hater minority on both side.

Since Slovak hooligans, far righters attacked Hungarian minorities.And because of the Slota kind of anti Hungarian propaganda. But that was a phase only, most of the Hungarians have no grudge against Slovaks anyway.

The slovak ethnicity is not "illegitimate", but you should know hungarians and slovaks have same history, same genetic, same national symbols only the language is different but we have thousands of same words. As a native hungarian speaker i can understand lot of slovak word, but i never studied slovak language.
