    Default False Paternities

Doing my dad's y-DNA, I found out our family has been using the wrong last name for the past 3 generations. Anyone else found something out like this?

I had some cases like this in the FTDNA projects I administrate but that accounts maybe for 2-3% of a whole.

When it comes to me - I am certain that my father, paternal grandfather and and paternal great-grandfather are indeed my ancestors thanks to autosomal matches. Didn't test any other person sharing the same surname and more distant ancestor to verify older generatons but would gladly do it

In my case, the female ancestor gave her sons her dead husband's name and we all used that. She named one man as my ancestor's father and another man as her other son's father. All my dad's close y matches had the other man's surname, not the one she named lol

the DNA tests help alot to uncover the puzzles
since 1890 my family holding wrong family name, also believing themself originaly belong to the ground , but with dna tests they discover them self are not even from the country , and what they used to hear as stories is true, and also they got to know the original family name .
