Why is that astounding? I think he appeals to a certain audience. I don't mind him, though. He is just okay. I like Steve Martin better.

That's the South I grew up in. BTW My dad did not serve Blacks in his cafe until 1964 and there was open discrimination towards Blacks in my town during most of the early 60's. As I recall my cousin was engaged in the harassment of Blacks (along with his hooligan friends) for most of the 60's. Racism was rampant when I was a kid.
