People aren't going to see a film just because an actor or actress was a victim. Being a victim alone doesn't draw an audience (unless the film is about the crime). Film producers know the obvious because they live and die by what they put out in the present (no one in power cares about their past success if they bomb in the present). If this is what this guy thought, then he's a fool (and he certainly proved he's a fool by how badly he fucked up this hoax).

Embattled TV star Jussie Smollett's legal problems have just become significantly more serious as a Cook County grand jury has returned a 16-count true bill of charges against him in connection with his alleged falsification of a hate crime in Streeterville in late January.
