For ancestrydna? I don't think so. Her original results gave her a very high East Asian percentage, 21%, not sure if that counted as Austronesian but that all decreased since the update.

Eastern non-African ancestry, simple as that. It's also very common for them to score east Asian, same reason.

Those were the results before the update. The updated ancestrydna results show most desis getting south asian with a split of gujarati and south asian.

Basically before the update, they used to have punjabi and sindhi groups as references for south asian. Thats why many pakistanis used to get 95%-100% south asian on those tests while indians used to get 85% or so with rest being east asian/pacific islander due to the ASI shift compared to pakistanis. It gets complicated with some groups like bengalis though since they have good amount of ASI and actual east asian. they got results with 20% East asian on AncestryDNA.

I used to have 8% east asian and 5% melanesian. Most south asians showed melanesian, which is related to australian aboriginal group, and thats basically shared dna with south asian native groups. Now after the update most south asians get almost nothing besides south asian.

    Before update

    After update

Averages Chart, before update. I'm not sure if there's a collection after the updates.

East asian stretches from east siberia to indonesia so Indians get higher east asian than pacific islander due to the SE asian shift as many tribes in india, like peterski pointed out, are quite similar to austronesian groups in mainland SE asia. After that they get melanesian, then polynesian. This is due to having more affinity towards australian aborigines than tongans/samoans.

I'd guess it relates to the wider Austronesian realm. Asia-->South East Asia-->Polynesia

could maybe just be SE-asian-like admixtures or 'austronesian" dna,,,i believe there may be a lil austronesian influence in some parts of south asia..i'm guessing not all that much though unless we're speaking of 'NE-india' and such

but what percentages do they seem to score from what you have seen?

but if we're talking about thailand, burma, and cambodia...there there IS some austronesian/taiwanese-aborigine-like admixture in there for sure
