Don't play games that much, but I saw this movie yesterday https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397101/ it's a very decent one, with a good plot.

I have used James from Silent Hill 2 for my profile picture for a long time. I have an OG PS3 that is backward compatible with the PS1 and PS2 and I can play all the SH games on it (other than PT which I missed entirely.) "Origins" and "Shattered Memories" had PS2 ports.

I have played most of the games mentioned in this thread. This includes all the REs. But the two games that have gotten under my skin have some dark content that just doesn't go away once I stopped playing. "Outlast" has got some of the most screwed-up disturbing monsters of them all. In the "Whistleblower" DLC, "the bridegroom" and what he has been doing Yikers...visceral... The other is "SOMA". That one has some heady arguments on intelligence and humanity. It was done by the same people who did "Amnesia".

I didn't see that ending coming.

    Without a doubt, SOMA.

I havent had a game that made me get scared just by diving into my thougths alone, let alone haunt me for the days to come after i first finished it.

    The Thracian and Karamanid menace.

That is the one game I tell people to turn off the monsters and play for the story.
Even though, it has some of the most intense "first-person fleeing" gameplay. Better to get the story than miss out on it entirely.

True, i did comment on how the monsters are possibly the weakest aspect of the game in another post.

The monster sections are fine, but feel forced IMHO. SOMA in its core is a psychological thriller. And the monsters just feel shoehorned in to appease the classic horror game players.

The monsters appeased me for the most part. All that goop and the final
"boss" seemed like a tangent that could have been better integrated into the main story.
In fact, it rarely comes up in the discussions I have had with others who have played it.
