Default Videos about Irish Medieval History

I'm adding some videos here about various Irish Kings and periods in Irish history or related history. A lot of people wouldn't be aware of all the intrigue and battles that took place in Ireland. Feel free to add any others.

Here's one that I watched a few months ago.

Was medieval Ireland not a very united country like the kingdoms of England and Scotland?

Nope. Lots of fighting between various kingdoms and tribes. It's why invaders always got a foothold and they in turn ended up getting involved in Irish politics and fighting for different Irish chiefs/kings i.e. the Vikings and Normans.

Now I understand why the British Empire took Ireland very easily.

Ireland was never of interest to the Romans but you believe that if the Roman Empire tried to conquer Ireland, it would have fallen like England or resisted like Scotland?

There would have been constant warfare. They would have resisted and when they got their act together i.e. joining forces they were quite formidable. Ireland was a bunch of divided kingdoms and regional dynasties and they were always fighting each other for control of all Ireland. It was only when Brian Boru came around that he managed to unite all the warring factions due to sheer force.

Interesting video about the early Irish Church. Irish Christianity developed independently due to lesser influence from Roman Christianity. Irish monks often travelled far and wide and one of their practices was Green Martrydom which was to leave all your loved ones and travel to isolated places to spend time in prayer. This was how they ended up in Skellig Michael, Shetlands and Iceland. Columba founded Iona which became a very important Christian site. I like History Time but he can't pronounce Irish words Ui Neill is pronounced as ee Nail not the way it is constantly pronounced here but Irish is very difficult so I still think he makes great videos.

Respect to the Irish and people with Irish ancestry. You all know how to have a good time, joke around and not take yourselves seriously, very unpretentious behaviour. Humble but proud folk. Too bad most Europeans aren't like the Irish. God bless you all and Cheers.
