This has more to do with shared cultural values and outlook than anything else, it is usually better that way for everyone.

As far as I'm concerned, education, behaviour and tastes matter more than everything else. Ethnic background is really the last of my worries. And political opinions is one of those things that became less and less relevant as time went on. If anything I'm finding highly opinionated people more and more annoying and vulgar.
