Default "Miami is to Latin America what Dubai is to South Asia". Discuss.

    (1) In Miami, Hispanics have outnumbered both Whites and Blacks for a number of decades. Similarly, in Dubai, South Asians have outnumbered Arabs for a number of decades.

    (2) Both cities are major transport, financial and commercial hubs for Latin America and South Asia respectively. In fact, Latin Americans often use Miami to connect to other Latin American countries, e.g. many Colombians change there to go to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Similarly, South Asians often go via Dubai to get from one place in the Subcontinent to another, not least given the constant tension and consequent lack of flights between India and Pakistan, which means it is often easier to fly via Dubai than to find direct flights between the two countries.

    (3) Although English is still the official language of Miami, Spanish has equalled it, if not necessarily supplanted it, as the language of business and tourism. Conversely, although Arabic is still the official language of Dubai, English has largely supplanted it as the language of business and tourism.

Difference is that Miami will probably be a latin american city culturally and linguistically by births overtime. Where as south asians in Dubai don't get citizenship rights even if they're born there, they're just workers/residence who'll eventually go home.

True. Still, the practical effects of their respective transformations through immigration, tourism and finance are comparable imo.

I'd love to live in Miami.

Both are dynamic, I agree (But I'd prefer Miami).

Yes...the level of usage of spanish in the streets of the floridian metropolis is mindblowing. My mother can speak some marginal spanish and can't speak english at all...in Miami she did fine just with her spanish skills, english was barely needed. Also, let's also mention that going a little bit norhtwards in Florida, you can find a handful of brazilian tourists there, you pretty much only hear portuguese in some outlet stores there hahaha,a comedy duo from there even made a video about the stereotypical brazilian tourist behaviour in Florida, but many brazilians got outraged by it...personally I found it funny as fuck and quite representative of the most stereotypical behaviour of brazilians there...whole families wearing GAP outfit, girls taking ton of selfies...

You mean degenerate and devoid of any real culture? I don't think so.

Are you referring to Miami or Dubai there?
