When I was particularly disruptive my 178cm mother would grab and shake me. Alternatively I was also slapped. This occurred for example when I would get into a laughing fits while taking medication and she was waiting to go to bed. If she was irritated it would be more likely. My dad never got physical because he thought it primitive and unnecessary.

Yes but not in anyway that would have really constituted abuse for the era at the time though by todays standards it probably would be.

I dont continue this practice though, i recall once i turned around 16 I almost physically fought my Dad on a few occasions during a time of argument partly because I
held it against him that he hit me when i was younger even though the hitting had been a disciplinary measure and not frequent i always held some resentment against him for it, thats why i would not repeat such measures to my kids.

I’ve been slapped a few times by my frustrated mother, never by father, and never been beaten. I looked like an innocent angel but I was baaad. If I wanted something, I used every manipulative trick I knew to get it. I probably should have been disciplined a bit more. Now I get a taste of my own medicine by raising a highly independent and opinionated little girl. I do get an urge to spank her at times but keep my hands to myself.

But that was only when I did seriously bad things. Like, I was really reactionary, and I would do the complete opposite of what I was being told not to do. Now, that I think back to it, I get really sad, because if I wasn't disciplined I would both really make my parents saddened and it would hurt the family as well (cannot tell about what, it's too personal).

In other words: I only got spanked when absolutely necessary. In adolescence and early adulthood we talk it out. Sometimes intensely, but we do resolve all of the issues and we're happy ever after.
