Default How do Corfiots compare to other Greeks?

I have never seen any specific threads about Corfiots, so I have a few questions

    * What range of phenotypes is there?
    * What other region of Greece do they resemble most?
    * Any differences from the other Ionian Islanders?
    * Do they look more Italian or Balkan?

They look closest to Peloponnesians and Cyclades islands to me. I would say they look in between Italian and Balkan -- more Mediterranean than Bulgarians for instance, but without the MENA elements of say, Sicilians/Calabrians or Dodecanese people.

*Mediterranean types dominate the island, but not the "east Mediterranean" that dominates southeast aegean islands, they look more "white". Worth mentioned that no other island in Greece has a higher percentage of alpines

-Ionian islanders from what i have seen usually overlap peloponnese and central Greece

-Yes there are. Half of my ancestry is from zante. Zantians are shorter in general, with less "continental traits" , and an increased possibility to see Aegean Mediterranean (east Mediterranean) types, even though the differences are not extreme

-They belong to the 2/3 of Greeks who would resemble "euro-mediterraneans" (or as you said Italians) but yes, it probably has the highest percentage of Balkan looking people among Greek islands

*excluding genetic results, the rest are my impression from what i have experienced

The way I put it is Ionian islanders might resemble some Italians but they're not Sicilian or Calabrian looking (who would also fit into that East Med type look).

Deep south Italians are probably resembled only by dodecanese and eastern Crete

The rest of Greeks resemble people from abruzzo to campania, and there's also an 1/3 of people who could pass better in Balkans, some in western Balkans and some in eastern

Thanks Would an East Med appearance in a Corfiot suggest ancestry from other parts of Greece or Asia Minor?

Probably closer to those on the Adriatic coast from Marche down to Apulia.

I group Greeks into the following groups and I'd like to know if others agree:

    1. Balkan looking, some Slavic influence but more "Med" than Balkan Slavs: Epirus, Thrace, Thessaly, Macedonia
    2. Generally South European looking but with Balkan influences: Peloponnese, Central Greece, Ionian islands, Cyclades, North Aegean
    3. "Sicilian" or "South Italian" looking, which includes Levant influences: Crete, Dodecanese, Cyprus, Anatolian Greeks
    4. West Asian looking in full: Pontians and Cappadoccian Greeks from Anatolia

Agree. I think we share the same view.
