NATO could be clear that any attack on any NATO partner will mean Finis Russiae. The end of Russia. Complete and utter obliteration. They will understand that kind of tone, so they will tone down immediately and recognise their numerical, military and economic superiors: the West.

I'm not particularly worried. This may have more to do with Putin's decline in popularity among his base in the provinces than anything to do with the US. He may be reminding his voting base that he is a powerful male that Russia needs at the helm, which is what he has always tried to project. Unforunately for him all his eggs are in the oil and natural gas basket and so that places major limitations on him. I don't fear a nation whose economy you can easily crush.

I agree. He is probably trying to boost his domestic popularity, which took a hit because of what he did with pensions.

The US has no right to put missiles and bases near the Russia territory. This reminds us of what happened when the Americans located American-owned missiles in Turkey (which were able to target Moscow itself) and yet when the Americans knew of what was happening in Cuba, they immediately called for withdrawal of the ballistic missiles from there (after the approval of Fidel Castro). And then Turkey came claiming it would leave it in a danger zone and that they would break their NATO alliance. Cuba could have used the same claim as to being exposed to the Americans (anti-USSR) in the North and hence the situation would have been similar.
