I believe that the Gaulish people's DNA is likely included in one or both of these genetic maps. If so, than the French are likely about 25-50% Gaulish. Now you might be asking "what about the Franks? Shouldn't they be the dominant genetic contribution?". This could be true, but even so the Franks likely had celtic ancestry themselves because the Gauls lived in southern & central Germany for a long time, and it is likely that the Germans have a significant percentage of celtic DNA as well.
You might also say the celts had no defining genetic characteristics do to some articles that said so. Well, what the articles have forgotten is that, the original proto-celts lived 3000 years ago or more. So of course various sub-ethnicities of celts will have different genotypes, unlike the Germans who stayed not only intact linguistically for another 500-1000 years, but also traded & spread their genes to other tribes of Germans more often & farther reaching than other groups.
I, of course could be wrong, so please, if you have any better proof of what the real average percentage of Gaulish is among west Europeans, do comment, & I would love to hear a more definitive answer to this question.
