    Default The Dyatlov Pass Incident

S02E09 - The Dyatlov Pass Incident - Part One - In February 1959, a group of hikers died in mysterious circumstances on the slopes of a then unnamed mountain. Now one of the most famous mysteries of the 21st century, are we any closer to understanding what exactly caused the Dyatlov Pass incident?

S02E09 - The Dyatlov Pass Incident - Part Two - In yesterday’s episode, we retraced the route of the nine hikers on their journey towards Otorten Mountain. Weeks later, after their failure to return to Sverdlovsk, search parties were assembled and it didn’t take long for them to find the abandoned camp site. What ensued was truly horrifying…

This is a familiar to me, terrifying story. To be honest, I believe that some sudden incident probably smoke-related took place, perhaps there was a quarrel between them, and the rest of these events were only direct, tragic consequences of this.

Of course, we're dealing with the USSR here (and Russia is no different): so expect some kind of accident to have taken place that was neatly covered up. After all: the Soviet Air Force did, as was mentioned, perform tests in the area and the lights they may have seen may well have been parachute mines. Some may have been injured when a mine landed to close to the camp, causing those in the tent to flee, only to succumb to hypothermia. The Soviet authorities would be afraid of admitting to any mistakes (or, heaven forbid, complicity) so they very likely quickly covered it up.

That's, at least, the most logical explanation I can think of.

Those common explanations leave much to be desired as some piece of the puzzle does not fit or have some initial errors when they are of that ordinary ilk not unlike as in the case of the Phoenix Lights incident when somethese people claimed that was seen in 1998 was flares, while these UFO's remained in the still position flying away only after some time has passed. I love reading some tin-foil theories on the matter of Dyatlov on the other hand even though I don't accept them. r

The inexplicable deaths of nine hikers at the base of an isolated and remote Russian mountain in 1959 remains one of history’s most enduring and unsolved mysteries. But a new hypothesis may well have finally revealed the true circumstances surrounding their tragic demise. Join us this week, as we return to Dead Mountain.
