There was a film from the 90's called 'Twelve Monkeys'. It was pretty damn good but I don't think a lot of people know it.
Edit: I just looked it up, it's more fantasy than Sci-Fi.

Not much love for the 5th element? I've seen it way too many times and it never ceases to amuze me.

My favourite character is jean-baptiste emmanuel zorg. His slick and large forehead as well as his trimmed beard are most remarkable.

I like the first one the best. Alien Isolation was also great, one of few games I've actually bothered to play in recent years

The Thing, Gattaca, District 9, Moon and Mad Max (especially the latest one) are also some worth mentioning. Oh, and Dredd too, one of the most underrated sci-fi movies in my opinion.
