(by the way, it's of no modern politica use, as Sword was hoping. It's open to interpretation, anyway.)
EDIT: the more I look at the map, the more approximate it seems. I would say that the northern peoples are all shoved too far east. There's little reason to suppose Tacitus was talking of anything into modern Russia with his 'Venedi'. Perhaps the map was slighly political in its framing....
