They have to force the US to hold the same standard or they'll be undermining their own. Most people will jump on the 79% price difference especially since there has not been a health scare in the US for them to stay with a higher price.

They're not going to allow the British market to be overwhelmed by dropping their standard and cause businesses to be out competed by Americans.
It would devastate businesses and workers in that part of their economy. It's just anti-Brexit propaganda (all of the papers you mentioned aren't exactly friendly towards Brexit, either.) When you look past the hysteria the claim is absurd because it ignores the realities of their domestic economy.
