Well, yesterday evening I learnt that a 'Magyar' is a person from Hungary... (we learn something new each day) ... so I thought to do some research into this nation. It's a nation in Central Europe. The capital city is Budapest (not to be confused with Bucharest which sounds similar but is a capital city of a different European nation.)

I enjoy learning about other cultures and I value the cultural learning exchanges that people can have with people from other nations via the internet.

I don't know why the nation is called 'Hungary' in English - because it sounds like 'hungry'. I don't know what the name of the nation is in the Hungarian language.

I know that Countess Elizabeth Bathory (the original vampire) was Hungarian... but I thought that Vlad Dracule Tepes was from Wallachia in Romania. The name 'Dracule' means 'devil' in Romanian.

Goulash is actually a Hungarian dish and not Turkish. It's like fish 'n' chips actually originated in Spain.

I've never encountered nor met anyone from Hungary in real life, but I've encountered a few Hungarian posters online on TA. They seem cool and friendly and nice.

Budapest is the capital of Hungary but a contestant struggled to get the answer right on this gameshow clip. When she was told the correct answer is Hungary... she was stunned that a country could be called 'Hungary'. In all fairness to this American female, I would've also struggled to get the answer correct. (There's a difference though between intelligence and knowledge... and so I don't think she's 'dumb' or a 'bimbo' - as she just wasn't aware or informed about the capital city of Hungary...and not many people on the planet know the capital cities for all of the nations in the world. People don't know everything... such as all the bird species, etc, but that doesn't make them stupid just for not knowing all of the varieties of birds or plants, etc.)

Although I'm aware that they don't speak French in Hungary... and I know that France is a country... and I know that Europe is a continent and not a country... and I know the capital of France is Paris and not Budapest... and I know that Hungary is a country and that it's in Central Europe and close to Austria... but I wouldn't have known if Budapest is the capital of Hungary or Romania because I often get those two capital cities muddled, as Bucharest and Budapest sounds similar.

I remember there used to be a poster from Hungary on TA called 'Stears' and he taught me that Hungary historically had a lot of inventors and scientists.

I'm just watching this interesting and educational video about Budapest. Apparently Budapest isn't pronounced as 'Boo-da-pest' ... it's pronounced as 'Bood-a-pesht'.

The architecture looks enchanting and interesting. The video also mentions the 'Magyar' people (which means an ethnic Hungarian person.)
