Default If North Italians are genetically "south" of Iberians why are Iberians darker?

North Italians plot south/east of Iberians, in part due to higher input from the Caucasus region (which don't get me wrong is not that high in North Italy compared to in some other parts of Europe, it is just EXTREMELY low in Iberia, uncharacteristically so for Southern Europe).

However, you would never know it from phenotype. There are definitely more Iberians who look Mediterranean (and passable outside of Europe) than there are North Italians who do. I don't think North Italians look very different from southern Germans and some French.

Probably because Iberia is more isolated than Northern Italy, that is closer to the core of Europe.

About pigmentation i think Northern Italy has more light types but mind that you're comparing just a part of Italy to an entire peninsula formed by Spain and Portugal, two entire countries and Spain is huge.....

The question of who is darker is of little interest to me. However, the Iberians are more genetically "west" than more "north" of northern Italians.

The climate is the main divide. People who get less Sunrays (so those who live in the north) are fairer than those who get more Sunrays (those in the south)

Same as why Hungarians are lighter than greeks

    1. Northern Italians overlap (phenotypically) with other Central European populations whom they share borders with, incluiding Germanic and Slavic countries. Iberia lies entirely and more isolated in Southwestern Europe. This doesn’t mean that Northern Italians look Germanic or Slavic, but they do, logically, have more overlappings than Iberia.

    2. Exposition to the sun. Most of Iberia receives more sunlight than most of Italy. The only place in Italy that receives such a high degree of sunshine hours is Sicily.

Yes with everything you said; except your map.
Its not sunshine Duration (the one you posted) but sun irradiance that darkens your skin.
