Lourenço Marques in the 1970s/Lourenço Marques nos anos 70 do séc. XX

Lyrics of the song "Lourenço Marques" featured in the video/Letra da música "Lourenço Marques" ouvida no vídeo:

    Lourenço Marques
    By/Por João Maria Tudella

Há um não sei quê nesta cidade
Côr em seus jardins com ar contente
    Um jeito de sorrir
Por bem que só por si atrái

Há um não sei quê nesta cidade
    Que nos faz pensar alegremente
O cheiro bom que terra tem
    Depois que a chuva cai

    Lourenço Marques
    Minha flor, meu garriço
O teu nome não sei que faz
    Só sei que traz feitiço

    Lourenço Marques
    Meu amor, meu elevo
Boa sorte que tu me dás
    É a que traz o trevo

    Lourenço Marques
    Quem te deixa cidade
Que veneno não sei lhe dá
    só sei que traz saudade

CABORA BASSA DAM/BARRAGEM DE CABORA BASSA, MOZAMBIQUE/MOÇAMBIQUE

The dam was finished in December 1974 after much political debate. The Cahora Bassa dam is the largest hydroelectric power plant in southern Africa and the most efficient power generating station in Mozambique. The dam is jointly owned by Mozambique and Portugal.

The dam began to fill in December 1974 after construction was commenced in 1969 by the Portuguese colonial government of Mozambique (Portugal), and is 171 metres (561 ft) high by 303 metres (994 ft) wide at the crest.

The town of Tete, 60 miles from the dam site, is already expanding rapidly and looks destined to be the capital of what will be a sort of central African Ruhr. But Cabora-Bassa's significance is more than economic. The Portuguese, who rule Mozambique, hope that the overall progress it will bring will help to put an end to their five-year old guerilla war with the Mozambique nationalists. They are, in any case, counting on attracting up to a million white immigrants, who will have an enormous effect on the political and racial balance not just of Mozambique but also of the whole of southern Africa.

Great thread. Angola and Mozambique were the portuguese South Africa. Both countries were and still are considerably more developed than others Sub Saharan African countries.

In the picture of the Tap's 707, the other plane is a brazilian 737 from Varig which cant cross the South Atlantic ocean.

Unfortunately, the several decades of civil war that followed independence in 1975-76 completely ruined those countries. Only recently (last 15 years or so) have they begun to recovery. These were very nice places to live and prosper.

Perhaps that picture was actually taken in Brazil?

Some of the links to the pictures seem to be broken now. Damn. :/
