Can any experts in anthropology, as well as US demographics, share their thoughts on the following:
These days, even though the US White population is declining, there’s the belief that Hispanics (the light-skinned ones) will soon identify as White, sort of following in the footsteps of Irish, Italians, Jews 100 yrs ago. In this way, it’s claimed, the “White” US population won’t formally become a “minority.”
Here’s at least one example where this is discussed,

The Hispanic-NonHisp.White intermarriage rate is the highest in the country. I see some comments to the effect of [i]“The distinction between the two ethnic groups will probably vanish within a generation or two. Texans refer to non-Hispanic whites as ‘Anglos’ rather than Whites because most Texans consider Texan Hispanics white. Also, “Most Hispanic Americans are white.”[i]
So how quickly do races merge, i.e., is it indeed a short-term possibility for Latinos to become racially White?
Here’s a counterargument: in Latin America, there was strong intermixing of whites (Spanish) with the indigenous people. But the result has been a separate race which is distinct from whites.
Also, if Latinos are white, why is there so much resistance to their migration into the US, causing the build-the-wall Trump outrage? I realize some of the opposition isn’t racist, but much of it is.
