Alaska is not a survivable country. Let's see:

Culture-wise they would fit both well with the U.S and Canada.
Economically speaking, they have a lot of resources but are still depending on U.S government and business investment.
Strategically speaking, they are an interesting asset for the U.S.
Politically speaking, they are a Republican state.

So, what is the most rational option ? The citizens of Alaska would want nothing else but to remain part of the United States so a part of the United States they will be.
