Historically Germany has been the bigger enemy, but Poland didn't hesitate to join Schengen and pretty much hand over their economy to them.

Out of the 3 partitioners of Poland - Russia, Prussia, Austria - Austria granted its Polish population the greatest degree of cultural autonomy.

This is why today some people in Southern Poland have this "Galician and proud" identity.

But even this is dumb, as Austrian rule was still quite oppressive and Galicia was one of the most neglected regions of the Austrian Empire.

That is actually a myth (the idea that hundreds of thousands of Poles were successfully Germanized during the 1800s is a myth).

Upon examining ethnic structure of Prussia in early 1800s vs. early 1900s, I found out there was not much difference (and most of the difference was caused not by assimilation but by mass immigration of German settlers organized, among others, by the Prussian Settlement Commission):

None of my ancestors lived in the Russian Empire, all of them lived in Prussian Poland.

And I found out that I'm more Pro-Russian than Poles from formerly Russian-ruled areas.

I guess Russian rule was bad, but was it really bad enough to call them "mortal enemies"?

Out of that 44% lived in "Tsarstvo Polske" (Congress Poland) or Białystok Region, while 14% in Western Krai:

I mean, there was migration from Poland to other parts of the Empire. Also there was a reverse migration. I studied the 1897 census.

I studied the 1897 census.

The 1897 census is universally considered falsified by independent (Non-Russian) historians, when it comes to data about ethnic Poles.

And for example the number of Roman Catholics in what is now Ukraine according to that census was much higher than the officially reported number of Poles in the same territory, which means that the data was falsified because nearly all of Roman Catholics were Poles (which is why today Ukraine has almost no Roman Catholics, as you expelled your Polish minority after WW2). In 1897/1900, the entire territory of present-day Ukraine had 6.3% Roman Catholics but only 4.4% Poles according to official data (and keep in mind that the Austrian census of 1900 counted actually more Polish-speakers than Roman Catholics, because many Protestants and Jews were also Polonized; so Russian data was falsified):



Today nearly all of the 0.8% of remaining Roman Catholics in Ukraine are either Poles or Ukrainized people with Polish ancestry:
