Ilyrians = I lire which means the free, as in people who didn't live in city states like Greeks. They had nothing to do with Greeks until their southern tribes got hellenized to an extent, which resulted in some sort of continuum that lasts until today.

In Ancient Times Greeks spoke a lot of languages and dialects, Albanian is amalgamation of many but they are not Western Balkan Illyrian people, they are more related to Greeks.

It seems we three share a similar hardon for the paleobalkans (in the best, purest and purist sense)..

What forceful core sentiments/notions would either of you relate in support of your perspective?

This map pretty much shows where Greek culture meets Illyrian genetics, namely Epirus and to a lesse extent the rest of Albania. Do not take politics into account:

I'm no linguist, but I'm curious: what is the academic consensus regarding the comparison between the Greek and the Albanian, language spectra?

If I'm understanding this right then the two languages must have originated separately and then converged a little through history. Notice how in the second graphic, albanian-romanian-greek-bulgarian end up being placed close .

    Nice post.

Is the Balkan Sprachbund a meaningful concept in your opinion? (Define/gauge meaningfulness however you like)

    Cheers, anyway

Hopefully someone with a more formidable grasp of the linguistic aspect/s comes and cums all over this thread.
