There's been lots of very strict government reforms to welfare benefits over the last few years, with people forced to wait without any money for 6 weeks in order to receive money from Universal Credit, which has been controversial and in the mainstream news a lot. People have become homeless and are forced to go to food banks to receive food, including pregnant females.

Sick and disabled people are also being forced to attend regular workshops and are encouraged to seek work in order to continue receiving welfare payments. An English mother of 9 children (who had fallen ill and had developed several disability problems,) was told her disability welfare benefits would be stopped, so she committed suicide.

Another new welfare reform law has been made by Conservative MP Amber Rudd, which means taxpayers will now only fund the first two children of people who aren't employed.

Unemployed parents will now have to fund any more children they have themselves. The parents will also have to show that they're attending regular job interviews in order to receive welfare payments.
Employment rates in the UK are currently very high with only 4% of the population currently being unemployed.
