If you see a post in red font made by my username, that means that it is Pompey's post, not mine.

His name inspired the Dutch to the expression: "krijg de rambam" (basically: get f... !) "krijg de -- get the" should be explained in the fact that the man was a doctor so, so who else but to help you when you got something, eh ?

Anyway: this is probably not even his real portrait as actual portraiture wasn't developed until the Renaissance as until the Renaissance the individual itself wasn't worthy enough: just his station in society. We still see this in the way we address people by their titles. We all know the Duke of Wellington.. but only those who look beyond him known him as Arthur Wellesley. Portraiture worked the same.

Judging from the portrait btw: it was made at least 400 to 500 years after he had died (and probably even more).

You are right. We don't really know what he looked like... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3678793/
