São Paulo. The intelligibilty between BR Portuguese and Spanish makes the latter go farther, even if more New Yorkers actually competently speak Spanish, the ones who don't will have a much harder time communicating with you and vice versa. Learning Portuguese would also go much faster.

Also there isn't any anti-hispanism in São Paulo, although in NY it may not be as widespread as other places further west, I think you'd find some resistance. Also Brazil in general is a lot more informal, job market wise, easier to get through the cracks.

Visiting won't be much of a problem, but "surviving" as an immigrant would be harder, obviously many do it, illegally even, but it'd be hard and even then you probably live in a Puerto Rican ghetto in the Bronx (or Brooklyn can't remember which).

TLDR, you would survive in both, but in São Paulo you'd go farther.

São Paulo vs Miami would also be interesting.

people here saying Sao Paulo are nothing but idiots who havent left their cave

I have been to both Brazil and yes even Sao Paulo and also New York
I could spend all day long only speaking Spanish in New York
in Brazil I couldn't do that at all

i dont know where people are getting this idea that they can survive in Brazil with just spanish LMAO smh people here really have low IQs, and sadly only proving non-Latinos how retarded Latin Americans tend to be, which I have to admit, Latin Americans (excluding Mexicans) here are one of the most retarded group of people, and its not their fault, they cant afford to even visit all of their country, let alone afford to travel to America

Don't know about São Paulo, but here we would have a lot of trouble speaking in Spanish. People here tend to say that the biggest problems in latin America are that they speak Spanish (Not that we like to speak portuguese either )

    I think New York.
Even if Portuguese is the closest language to the Spanish, the diferences are still significant. In NY, you have many more enclaves where the Spanish language is spoken, which is not the case of SP/Brazil, this country is way less diverse than the USA, you have the "Portunhõl" (mix of Portuguese and Spanish) in the border areas with Hispanic America, but outside these sections the Spanish language is not very spoken.
