Honestly I have mixed feelings about the Byzantines. I truly wish Greece had become a total Venetian or Frankish principality and eventually part of Italy or France.

Why should Greeks (on the mainland) have any loyalty to an Anatolian (Eastern) Empire? This was purely a religious conviction on the part of Orthodox Greeks who lived in continental Greece.
