Why is finding the subcaldes important for the average person? I can understand research purposes, but what does a hobbyist gain?

I tried uploading to Morley but it can't read my file. Seems like it was made for FTDNA.

Because knowing you are R1b is too broad and not very useful. Different regions of Europe have different subclades.
    Same goes for other haplogroups.

Unzip your raw data first and try uploading it. It should read 23andMe raw data (it did mine) but I am not sure if it will with V2.

I had to choose FTDNA format for it to work, so i'm not sure how accurate these results are:

    Experimental tree
    Spoiler!

    ISOGG tree
    Spoiler!

They seem accurate, they gave you what you already knew (P312). So basically it didn't help you that much, you will need to do a test to find out more.

Btw it gave you negative for L21 and U152 so there's a chance you're not one of these branches.

It’s true YDNA is not as important as the value placed upon it. Nor does it indicate actual ancestry but only the ancestors of one direct ancestor at a far point in time. The reason discovering the particular clade is important to people is because it can help with deciphering ancestry of the most recent ancestor on the paternal line. This is why full genomes tests are becoming more popular. What they can gain aside from the research is a more grounded telling of their origins which is important if facts Trump oral histories.

Thanks. That is a good answer. I wondered since the clades that people are more detailed than just a general subclade (for example: R1b-L12), which I can understand wanting to know. Funny enough, women don't seem to be that interested in learning their exact M haplogroup.
