Some here say its an amerindian trait, others say its dutch. Its somewhat not rare to see humble people like this on the countryside.

True, judging by the novela you would think the Northeast is just as white as the Southeast or Southern region, but I don't think some Iberian types, for example, Gracile-Med or Berid would look off for the Northeast, maybe the Atlantid types might stand out.

Also like the thread about India and Morroco, Globo tend to whitewash other places. About Northeast, white phenotypes like Atlantid and Atlanto-med dont stand out here because like the rest of Brazil the population is diverse and sometimes segregated. The problem in Globo novels and films is the proportion of phenotypes, these looks do exist as typical in Northeast, but they are way overepresented in novels. In Cordel Encantado, it seems only the middle upper class was represented.

Despite not as in the proportion of novels, almost all western and southern euro phenotypes can be still find in Northeast, some more others less. The problem of Novels, is that white brazilians there are like 80% and in Northeast thats much less. The region is more similar to some parts of Hispanic America.
