Catalonia is Spain's economic engine, it's true, but Catalan big business are well aware that Catalan wealth bases upon Catalonia being the international gateway to the Spanish markets.

Therefore it's hard to imagine Catalonia without Spain, and equally difficult to imagine Spain without Catalonia.
Well, this is what I thought until recently.

But with time passing the psychological and emotional gap is getting deeper all the time between Catalonia and the rest of Spain, full independence maybe is going to become a serious option, sooner or later.

Most of the Catalan economy is based on its sales to the rest of Spain.

The gap is also increasingly pronounced between separatists and Catalans loyal to Spain, and the latter today are the majority. There will be no independence, but surely all this leads to a serious conflict.
