    But I don't get it:

    - Canada didn't crash the global economy
    - Canada didn't initiate two wars in the Middle East
    - Canada doesn't overthrow democratically elected governments in the Third World and then props up pro-Canadian puppet regimes in those countries
    - Canada doesn't push unwanted democracy in the Middle East and multiculturalism in Europe (if anything the US pushed multiculturalism on Canada)

The reason for cultural similarities is because the US pushed them on us like they're trying to do in Europe and the Middle East. French Canada, and in English Canada, the Maritimes, are the last bastion of real Canada with minimal American influence.

Pretty much this. Some (though by no means all) French-Canadians look to be in a class of their own, but most Canadians in general seem to effectively be a kind of American.

For the most part, we assume Canadians to be American when they speak. Reminds me of an event in my school days when a friend of mine was getting 'told off' for something by an uppity Canadian substitute teacher.

    Her: *some annoying wank*
    My friend: *something about Americans*
Her: I'm not American, I'm Canadian!
    My friend: Same thing.
    Us: *LOLZEXACTLY*

I should point out here that English people aren't necessarily the most clued up regarding Canada. As I've mentioned before, I know a chap that believes that all of Canada is Francophone.

One big difference between our 2 countries is how clean they keep it there. I don't know if they have people picking up garbage more than here, or if they have less irresponsible douche-baggish people, who throw
    their garbage out their window?
I would bet that they place a higher value on civic responsibility, and less emphasis on the bottom line.
Canadians also seem like a tolerant bunch compared to many Americans.

I have always felt safe traveling in Canada and I have never been confronted or harassed in any manner, while there, except for the time I flew past a RCMP highway safety checkpoint stop or the time my truck was broken into while staying in Kamloops.

Last time that I visited BC, I would of thought it had more similarities to Japan.

In fact: there was an old joke circulating around that some of the locals began to call Vancouver- ''Hongcouver''.

You can blame the repatriation of Hong Kong to the Chinese for that. Many Hong Kong based institutions moved to Vancouver rather than staying and becoming Chinese.

In Vancouver I went through what seemed like endless streets of small Japanese, Chinese, and Korean businesses. I've also stayed in other parts of BC and plenty of the time felt like an estranged minority compared to all the asians. Seemingly- a lot of them don't bother learning english or fully integrating so there remains a huge cultural divide in the province.

In my opinion, Canada is more like the good ol' Land of 10,000 Lakes, but with more immigrants and faggier (if that's a word).

It took me a while to realize that The Trailer Park Boys were Canadian.

Similar to the American West Coast cities of Seattle, San Francisco and large portions of Los Angeles.
