It's all relative, money is not such a big factor in developed world anymore, as everybody can cover basic needs like food, health care, housing etc. While if you will take a look at Eastern europe 10-20 years ago or SE Asia now you can see a lot of wemen chasing rich men out of simple need to have enough money to cover their basic needs.
As for the most world untill the industrial revolution situation was pretty much the same as now in worst developed countries money has been a great factor in choice of a partner. So the sterotype was formed.

I care about if man has a job in first place and is ambitious about it. And I care about discovering if he has issues like alchohol/drug abuse, anger control problem etc.

What do you think if a man has no job, but he has a income (Im a pensionist at early age because of disability) and he helps with the household and works homechores etc. at home and helps raise the children?
