My opinion about the population on the pictures:

Sao Paulo was already a very cosmopolitan metropolis with a very diverse population. Sao Paulo was not segregated at all.

Rio was the Capitol and the hugest city of Brazil in this time and its incredible how the city changed way more than Sao Paulo. Rio was a city with a way more wealthier population than today and it was really a marvelous city to people who went to live there. Padaria Colombo, Panair do Brasil, Copacabana, Tom Jobim, Bossa Nova, Tom Jobim International Airport, a lot of Imperial buldings and palaces, VARIG and Copacabana Palace are some things that remember me Rio's Glamorous Past. The Elite of Rio of this time really knew how to be an Elite.

PS: its seems also Rio was way more segregated than Sao Paulo, the Beaches were completly white iberian. One hundred percent white brazilians! Its a dream! It looks a tropical version of Northwestern Iberia. Compare the pictures of Beaches with the guys on the bonde/tram, its a stark vision in my opinion, on the tram we can see workers from low class both whites and pardos, but more pardos. In the Beach we only see crownds of high class white brazilians, more european than european beaches of today and so european like the european and american beaches of the same time. Thats why foreigners and brazilians were so in love with Copacabana and its glamour.

To foreigners who dont know, Brazil never prohibit poors to go to the beach like Anglo Saxon settlement Colonies did, but only around 1980 brazilian cities started to create bus lines between poor areas and the beach elite areas and it was very polemic at the time, for example many high class cariocas complained how they did not wanted "farofeiros" in their beaches. Poor from far away areas went to others beaches before, but today many favelas grew up in rich areas and bus and metro lines were created connecting poor and rich areas of brazilian cities, this can be extended to most brazilian capitols, with less or more impact. The informal "segregation" has ended or almost it. Some people sees it as good, others as bad. I have both views, I think poors can have acess to good things too, but people how throw trash on streets, do graffitti and assalts should be banned for at least 2 or 5 years, both riches and poors.

That's true for the whole country, not just here! Unfortunately those who had power and wealth did not govern the way they should. They only cared about getting rich and did not care about the rest! They were the ones responsible for the country losing its course and becoming what it is today.

"Colorizadas" ? Porque abriste um tópico na língua castelhana ? Em Português é "Coloridas" e em Gaúcho é "Coloradas".

Brincadeira à parte, continua este belo thread.
