Default Youth unemployment rate in EU member states as of January 2019

The statistic shows the seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate in EU member states as of January 2019. The source defines youth unemployment as unemployment of those younger than 25 years.

Sadly, Southern Europe stands out for its atrocious unemployment rates.

Germany still the best. Also notable is how much lower Portugal's youth unemployment rate than other Southern European countries (lower than France even), although surely part of the explanation is their high levels of migration.

After a severe recession, the Portuguese economy has re-emerged with a newfound strength. However, there is a big problem: low salaries. The minimum wage in Portugal is 600 euros, a misery.
