Default Science Concludes The Reason Civilisations Boomed... And It's GOD

WHETHER you believe in them or not, Gods were imperative in the development of civilisations.

A new cross-cultural study has revealed the fear of then almighty inspired civilisations to stick to their morals and treat others with trust and respect.

Believers feared they would be punished if they didn’t follow the rules, which paved the way to a more cooperative trading network thus allowing societies to thrive.

A joint study from Oxford University and the University of British Columbia analysed almost 600 participants who followed different religions such as Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism as well as local traditions in places like Brazil and Tanzania.

The participants were asked to play economic games which involved either keeping coins for themselves or giving them to a stranger while they were being asked about their God.

They noted that those who said that their God was moralistic and vengeful were more likely to give their coins to a stranger, which the researchers say prove that religion promotes morals and treating others well.

Prof Dominic Johnson of Oxford University said: "In the modern world we rely on government's courts and the police to deter and punish those who would otherwise undermine social coordination.

"But how did human societies achieve and sustain cooperation before these institutes existed. One possibility is religion.

"Under the watchful gaze of supernatural agents people modify their behaviour in an effort to avoid the wrath of the gods.

"A large part of the success of human civilisation may have lain in the the hands of the gods. whether they were real or not.”

Dr Emma Cohen of the University of Oxford added: "The results of this study are in line with the idea that moralistic, punitive, all-knowing gods may play a significant role in seeing individuals cooperate with wider social circles."

Not that surprising, shame religion is dying in the West.
