    Default Meaning of Greek Surname

    Hi all,

Can anyone explain the meaning of the surname "Koutsimbas"?

I know it's most likely Americanized in some way, but I'm curious what the meaning of the surname is.

I know of the Koumbis family--
they got their surname from a button (κουμπί) that was always undone on his vest or it was missing.

What region in Greece is your family from?

Didn't find anything about Koutsibas but there is a similar one called Koutsoubas.
It means something without a top or ending (e.g. a tree or an animal without a tail).
Could indicate that the man had a missing limb or was lame.

It isn't my surname, but my wife's maiden name.

I'm not sure what part of Greece her family his from to be honest.

How is the name of Slavic origin? (excuse my ignorance).
