    Default Farming / Microfarming

I would like to start growing plants at my house, and while there are tons of information at my fingertips, I’m having somewhat of a difficult time both conceptualizing and organizing everything in my brain.

Have you grown edible plants before( think herbs, onions, tomatoes, etc)?

What is the minimal equipment you need to start a project like this?

I’ll probably start posting pieces that I’m finding online.

I’m happy that I’m attending a foraging class later this month for identifying plants in desert climates. The more I know, the better, so definitely looking forward to attending this. ^^

I suggest you watch some videos about this. Try to find a good seed seller, after your first batch of vegetables, try to store your own seeds so that you don't have to buy them again. I have some experience with flowers and growing plants, but not that much. I am trying to do the same as you!

Depending on climate....our summer is short (and colder than in many places).

We use greenhouse/glasshouse to grown tomatoes and cucumbers.

Opposite: grains, potatoes, beetroots, turnips, Swedish turnip, peas, beans, rhubarb, dills, salads, radishs, all kinds of berries, apples, pears, mini kiwifruits, grapes and cherries grows outside.

At the time I posted this topic, I was still taking heavy opioids for chronic pain for surgeries in 2018. It’s a bit weird how clouded I was at this time frame, but it’s a bit hard to imagine dealing with the filter of chronic pain on top of every day life.

Nowadays, I’d probably say I feel rushed at times with having to keep up with everyone’s demands and no time for tending to a micro garden. I should do one to experiment and keep my brain healthy.

    Ok all the best then

I did plant different herbs and chillies a few years ago in Greece.
I bought seeds of original South American chillies like Habaneros,Jalapenos,Cayenne,Serrano and Birds Eye and planted them.

The climate in Greece is suitable for chillies and it went quite well.
I used them in salads and marinades for marinades for grilled meat and chicken.

Chillies have to be planted between February and March and can be harvested in the late Summer and Autumm

There is seeds and alot of sites in the web where you can get information on the subject.

I ordered them at Amazon back then

    I would do it again

I have this weird thing where I get nervous taking care of living things, including plants. I’m of the opinion that if a person can’t give the proper allotment of time and attention to such a task, they shouldn’t undertake it.

Having said that, I have a very easy time taking care of kids and animals. I am super nervous about plants. That probably doesn’t make a lot of sense. I am nervous about failing them. I think this is an unreasonable feeling, but I need to overcome it anyway. Trying to figure out what plant is best for Vegas weather.

I'm in process of getting one of these for our backyard
