    King also has a reputation of bogging down a story with irrelevant backstory that doesn't add anything new to the story. I tried reading It but had to stop half way. Anything that doesn't move a story forward by revealing necessary information is nothing more than the author's self indulgence that should be edited out.

    And there really ain't no sensible reason to diss King unless you also enjoy dissing diaper-stained broken whiskey bottles in a dark-lit alley and are that petty. King is to be enjoyed as guilty pleasure, not as "the second Shakespeare" and from the gist of his literary attitude that appears to be his intention as well.
