Ironically, both the feminist left and the traditionalist right largely agree on one thing: men showing off their bodies to appeal to women is acceptable, whereas women showing off their bodies to appeal to men are either 'victims' (the former's view) or 'whores' (the latter's view). Do you agree that there should be a double standard for a man who likes to show off his pecks versus a woman who likes to show off her breasts?

I think females or gays could likely get excited about seeing a fit and in shape guy with his shirt off, so in some ways I can see point of topless beaches being an equality. Its all about socialisation , eventually people would become more desensitised if it were the norm.

Because most guys are not even that fit, to get a woman or homosexual excited with their bare chest and abdomen. Even if really fit, it's still not really that sexual or comparable at all with women's breasts. Blue collar guys work shirtless all the time and it's not a big deal. Society has coded partial male nudity and female partial nudity differently centuries or milennia ago. People are raised that way and these things have become instinctive. I don't know why you social liberals want to tear down all traditions and all normal human relations or social norms.

In western societys or places where people are accustomed to seeing shirtless guys its reasonably normal but in some societys where this is not that common then it could be seen as almost offensive nudity. We make a big deal about shirtless women mostly because its still a societal taboo, many women dont have issue to go topless at beaches but they would have major issues to go naked at nude beach.
